Huit Lingerie

There are brands you discover and then there are brands you fall in love with — and Huit is firmly in the second category. I first stocked Huit when I opened Caroline Randell in 2009, and it was love at first sight: the most delicate French laces, beautifully popping colours, and a femininity that felt genuinely different from anything else on the market. When the brand went into administration I was genuinely bereft. So when Huit was relaunched and we were able to bring it back to the boutique, it felt like welcoming back an old friend.

Founded in Rennes in 1968, Huit takes its name from the infinity symbol — and from the shape of the female form itself. The brand made history by pioneering one of the first wire-free bras at a time when women were quite literally burning them, and that spirit of feminine freedom runs through every collection to this day. Each design is developed with artisan partners in France, Italy and Switzerland — the laces, embroideries and exclusive prints are created specifically for Huit, which is why nothing else quite looks like it.

What makes Huit so special in the fitting room is the detail. The balcony bras are beautifully constructed and the soft bralettes are among the prettiest we stock — worn as much for the pleasure of wearing them as for function. The silk lining inside the cups and along the band is a genuine luxury touch that you feel the moment you put a piece on: smooth, cool and utterly beautiful against the skin. Crucially for many of our customers, Huit includes a 30 back — one of the harder sizes to find in beautiful French lace lingerie — making it a brand we recommend enthusiastically to our narrower-backed customers. Matching briefs, thongs and coordinates complete the collection, and when the chemises come in, they never last long.
