Frequently Asked Questions About Post Surgery Bras
What type of bra should I wear after breast surgery?
In the immediate aftermath of breast surgery — whether a mastectomy, lumpectomy, reconstruction, augmentation, or reduction — a soft, wire-free bra is essential. Underwires should be avoided during the healing phase as they can irritate the surgical site. A front-fastening bra is particularly helpful in the first few weeks when lifting the arms to fasten a back closure can be painful. The Anita Lynn, with its full-length zip front fastening, is ideal for this early recovery period. As healing progresses, you can transition to styles like the Anita Lotta for everyday wear. If you are unsure which style is right for your stage of recovery, please get in touch — we are always happy to advise.
Do your post surgery bras have pockets for a breast prosthesis?
Yes — our key Anita Care post-surgery styles, including the Lotta and Lynn, feature bilateral pockets on both sides to securely hold a breast prosthesis. The pockets are discreet and create a smooth, natural silhouette. We also stock non-pocketed soft bras and bralettes which are suitable for post-surgery wear without a prosthesis. If you need guidance on which option is right for you, please get in touch and we will help.
Are post surgery bras available VAT-free?
Mastectomy bras may be exempt from VAT for customers who have undergone or are planning breast surgery, under UK Government guidelines. If you believe you may be eligible, please contact us before ordering and we will advise you on how this applies to your purchase.
What is the difference between the Anita Lotta and Anita Lynn?
Both are seamless, wire-free, pocketed mastectomy bras from Anita Care — but they have different closures. The Lotta has a traditional hook-and-eye back closure and is designed for comfortable everyday wear with a soft microfibre construction. The Lynn has a full-length zip front closure, making it particularly well-suited to the immediate post-surgery period when arm movement is restricted. The Lynn can also be worn for sleep and light activity. Many customers find the Lynn invaluable in the early weeks and then transition to the Lotta for longer-term everyday wear.

Yes — and this is something we feel very strongly about. Our team at Caroline Randell is experienced in fitting post-surgery lingerie with sensitivity, care, and expertise. We offer a personal fitting service at our boutique in Wimbledon Village, London, in a friendly and completely private environment. Are there beautiful post surgery bras — not just functional ones?
Absolutely — and this is very important to us. Feeling beautiful matters enormously, especially after surgery. The Anita Essential Lace bralette is a beautiful example — a genuinely pretty lace bra that also functions perfectly as a post-surgery style. Rosa Faia also offers decorative soft cup styles with lovely lace detailing. We also stock a range of wire-free bralettes in our bralette collection that many post-surgery customers find both beautiful and comfortable. Across our collection, function and beauty are never mutually exclusive.
