Frequently Asked Questions About Luxury Pyjamas
What makes luxury pyjamas different from high street ones?
The difference is most visible in the fabric and the pattern cutting. Luxury pyjamas — whether silk, modal, or cotton — use better quality materials that are selected for how they feel against the skin, how they breathe, and how they hold up over time. But the craftsmanship in the cut matters just as much: a well-made pyjama set is engineered to sit correctly, move with you, and look as good on day 500 as on day one. The brands we stock are brands whose production we respect — houses like Karen Mabon, Marjolaine, and Luna Di Seta — and the difference is immediately noticeable when you put them on.
Are silk pyjamas practical for everyday sleeping?
Very much so — in fact, silk is one of the most practical fabrics for sleeping in once you understand its properties. It is naturally temperature-regulating, which means it keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer, adapting to your body temperature rather than holding heat the way synthetic fabrics do. It's also naturally smooth, so it doesn't tangle around you during the night. The care is a little more considered than cotton — a gentle machine wash on a delicate cycle or hand wash with a product like Soak Wash — but the longevity of a well-made silk pyjama set more than justifies it. Many of our customers have worn theirs for a decade or more.
What is modal fabric and is it good for pyjamas?
Modal is a semi-synthetic fabric made from beechwood pulp, which makes it naturally soft, breathable, and biodegradable. It has a silky-smooth handle with a gentle stretch, which makes it exceptionally comfortable to sleep in. Critically for pyjamas, it is also very easy to care for: machine washable, quick-drying, and needs no ironing. Stripe & Stare make excellent modal pyjamas with fun, considered prints — these are genuinely long-lasting and are a wonderful option for those who want the feel of luxury without the care requirements of silk.
How do you wash silk pyjamas?
Silk can be lightly machine washed on a very delicate cycle at a low temperature, but always check the care label first and avoid any programme that agitates heavily. Alternatively, hand wash gently in cool water. We highly recommend Soak Wash for all silk and delicate pieces — it's a no-rinse, gentle wash formula designed specifically for special fabrics, and it keeps silk looking and feeling its best for much longer. Never wring silk: instead, gently press out excess water in a towel and dry flat away from direct heat or sunlight.
What are the best luxury pyjamas as a gift?
A silk or premium cotton pyjama set is one of the most genuinely received gifts there is — beautiful enough to feel special, practical enough to be used every day, and something most people would never quite buy for themselves. Our most popular gift choices are Karen Mabon — we hold a number of their prints exclusively, both in silk and cotton, and the packaging and presentation are lovely — and Stripe & Stare modal pyjamas for anyone who prefers a fuss-free, machine-washable option. Both make excellent Christmas gifts for partners, mothers, and mother-in-laws. If you'd like guidance on sizing or would like to arrange gift wrapping, please get in touch via our WhatsApp service.
Which luxury pyjama brands do you stock?
Our current edit includes Karen Mabon (silk and cotton, with exclusive prints made for our boutique), Aubade (French silk pyjamas with the same precision and quality as their lingerie), Luna Di Seta (Italian silk cami and short sets — a staple since we opened), occasional silk pyjamas from Marjolaine, and Stripe & Stare modal pyjamas for a machine-washable luxury option. We also carry the wider silk nightwear collection if you'd like to explore silk chemises, nightdresses, and robes alongside your pyjama search.
