Luxury Pyjamas

There is a moment when you put on a truly good pair of silk pyjamas for the first time and understand immediately why they cost what they cost. It's not just the weight of the fabric or the way it moves — it's the cut, the way the seams sit, the fact that nothing pulls or twists through the night. A well-made pair of silk pyjamas is temperature-regulating in a way that synthetic fibres simply aren't: warm in winter, cool in summer, breathable enough that you sleep properly rather than just unconsciously. Silk is also a naturally smooth fibre, which means it doesn't tangle around you as you turn in the night — a small thing that makes a significant difference. At Caroline Randell, our luxury nightwear edit starts from the understanding that what you sleep in matters, and that the right pyjamas are an investment in sleep you'll notice every night.

Our silk pyjama edit begins with Karen Mabon — a brand we feel strongly about, and one where we hold a number of prints created exclusively for us that aren't available anywhere else. Karen Mabon's silk pyjamas are beautifully made, with considered cuts and the kind of print work that people genuinely stop and look at. They wear beautifully during the day too — the shirt is elegant enough to take beyond the bedroom — and they have become one of our most popular gift suggestions for Christmas. A silk Karen Mabon pyjama set is the gift a partner, mother, or mother-in-law would never quite buy herself: special enough to feel genuinely considered, beautiful enough to be kept and worn for years. We also stock silk pyjamas from Aubade — the French house that makes some of our favourite lingerie — whose pyjama sets bring the same precision tailoring and beautiful fabric to nightwear. We occasionally also stock silk pyjamas from Marjolaine when particular pieces come through that meet our standard. For those who prefer the cami-and-shorts aesthetic over a full pyjama set, Luna Di Seta's silk cami and short set has been a staple in our collection since we opened: simple, precise, and beautifully cut, with a cami top that works just as well worn as daywear.

Not everyone wants silk, and we have two excellent alternatives worth knowing about. Karen Mabon also produces cotton pyjamas in the same distinctive prints — these are a perennial favourite, particularly as Christmas gifts, and hold up beautifully wash after wash. And then there is Stripe & Stare, which has built a devoted following for its Modal pyjamas. Modal is a fabric made from beechwood pulp, which gives it natural breathability and a silky-soft handle with a gentle stretch — it moves with you, doesn't crease, needs no ironing, and can be machine washed with complete confidence. I've had mine for years, and they look and feel as good now as they did when I bought them. If the care requirements of silk feel like a commitment you're not ready for, or if you want something you can simply throw in the machine, Stripe & Stare Modal pyjamas are an exceptionally good answer.

On care: silk pyjamas can be gently machine washed on a delicate cycle at a low temperature, but we always recommend checking the care label first and treating the fabric carefully. We stock Soak Wash for exactly this — it's a no-rinse, gentle wash that's ideal for silk and other delicate fabrics, and it's something we recommend to everyone who buys a silk piece from us. Taking care of silk well means it lasts for years. These are not impulse purchases. They're the kind of thing you reach for on a Sunday morning, on the first night of a holiday, on every quiet evening that deserves something better than an old cotton T-shirt. If you'd like help finding the right style and size, our WhatsApp service is always available — or come and see us in the boutique at 6 Church Road, Wimbledon Village.

Frequently Asked Questions About Luxury Pyjamas

What makes luxury pyjamas different from high street ones?

The difference is most visible in the fabric and the pattern cutting. Luxury pyjamas — whether silk, modal, or cotton — use better quality materials that are selected for how they feel against the skin, how they breathe, and how they hold up over time. But the craftsmanship in the cut matters just as much: a well-made pyjama set is engineered to sit correctly, move with you, and look as good on day 500 as on day one. The brands we stock are brands whose production we respect — houses like Karen Mabon, Marjolaine, and Luna Di Seta — and the difference is immediately noticeable when you put them on.

Are silk pyjamas practical for everyday sleeping?

Very much so — in fact, silk is one of the most practical fabrics for sleeping in once you understand its properties. It is naturally temperature-regulating, which means it keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer, adapting to your body temperature rather than holding heat the way synthetic fabrics do. It's also naturally smooth, so it doesn't tangle around you during the night. The care is a little more considered than cotton — a gentle machine wash on a delicate cycle or hand wash with a product like Soak Wash — but the longevity of a well-made silk pyjama set more than justifies it. Many of our customers have worn theirs for a decade or more.

What is modal fabric and is it good for pyjamas?

Modal is a semi-synthetic fabric made from beechwood pulp, which makes it naturally soft, breathable, and biodegradable. It has a silky-smooth handle with a gentle stretch, which makes it exceptionally comfortable to sleep in. Critically for pyjamas, it is also very easy to care for: machine washable, quick-drying, and needs no ironing. Stripe & Stare make excellent modal pyjamas with fun, considered prints — these are genuinely long-lasting and are a wonderful option for those who want the feel of luxury without the care requirements of silk.

How do you wash silk pyjamas?

Silk can be lightly machine washed on a very delicate cycle at a low temperature, but always check the care label first and avoid any programme that agitates heavily. Alternatively, hand wash gently in cool water. We highly recommend Soak Wash for all silk and delicate pieces — it's a no-rinse, gentle wash formula designed specifically for special fabrics, and it keeps silk looking and feeling its best for much longer. Never wring silk: instead, gently press out excess water in a towel and dry flat away from direct heat or sunlight.

What are the best luxury pyjamas as a gift?

A silk or premium cotton pyjama set is one of the most genuinely received gifts there is — beautiful enough to feel special, practical enough to be used every day, and something most people would never quite buy for themselves. Our most popular gift choices are Karen Mabon — we hold a number of their prints exclusively, both in silk and cotton, and the packaging and presentation are lovely — and Stripe & Stare modal pyjamas for anyone who prefers a fuss-free, machine-washable option. Both make excellent Christmas gifts for partners, mothers, and mother-in-laws. If you'd like guidance on sizing or would like to arrange gift wrapping, please get in touch via our WhatsApp service.

Which luxury pyjama brands do you stock?

Our current edit includes Karen Mabon (silk and cotton, with exclusive prints made for our boutique), Aubade (French silk pyjamas with the same precision and quality as their lingerie), Luna Di Seta (Italian silk cami and short sets — a staple since we opened), occasional silk pyjamas from Marjolaine, and Stripe & Stare modal pyjamas for a machine-washable luxury option. We also carry the wider silk nightwear collection if you'd like to explore silk chemises, nightdresses, and robes alongside your pyjama search.
